Basic Drawing. This course covers the understanding of basic shapes (cones, cubes, spheres, cylinders) and how they are applied to drawing. Composition, proportion and perspective are addressed and applied to basic studies in still life, landscape, and the human figure. This basic course is the starting point for developing confident drawing skills that can be applied to other mediums (oils, pastels, watercolors, and colored pencils). Instructor Marc Massaro. Open Studio — Drawing, Painting & Sculpture. This workshop atmosphere will allow intermediate and advanced students working in the medium of their choice — drawing, painting, pastels — to do so alongside intermediate and advanced sculpture students. Due to workspace constraints, this class is limited to 10 students. Sculpture students should call to inquire about the types of materials permitted. Instructor Marc Massaro. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, June 2-July 21, 12:30–3:30 pm. $176 plus materials, late registration allowed.
Oil or Acrylic Painting. For beginners, intermediate, and advanced skill level oil painters. The instructor gives individual attention in the development of technique, composition, and color theory. Students develop in-class projects as well as independent projects based on subject matter of their choice. This course is for students who wish to advance to a higher skill level in the oil painting medium. Instructor Marc Massaro.

Beginning and Continuing Oil Painting. This course is designed for students of all skill levels. Beginning students learn the fundamentals of oil painting, how to mix colors and develop techniques, and composition through still life and landscape studies. (Beginning students must have basic drawing level skills to take this course.) Intermediate and advanced painting students will further develop their skills in technique and composition by developing their own subject matter with guidance from instructor Marc Massaro. Beginners and Continuing Watercolors. This introductory course is designed to teach the fundamentals of the watercolor medium. Students will learn step by step how to mix and combine colors using a limited palette. Get tips on paper, brushes, and paints. Photo reference provided. Basic drawing skills are recommended. Thursdays, June 4-July 23, 9:30 am-12:30 pm. $176 plus materials.

Scribble Collage Workshop. Create your own collage materials by making “paint playgrounds” and scribble drawings using acrylics, watercolors, crayons, pastels, and charcoal. June 13 & 14, 10 am-4 pm. Tuition is $203, $178 for members.
Fabric Collage Workshop. Work magic on a length of plain cotton fabric using transparent fabric paint, crayons, stamps, and transferred images. Tear, fuse, emboss and print to produce a wonderfully layered piece of art fabric, which may be further enhanced with hand embroidery, beads, and vintage trims. June 6 & 7, 10 am-4 pm. Tuition is $198, $183 for members.
Setting Stones in pmC. Add color and brilliance to your pmC jewelry by learning to set natural and lab-grown stones. Prerequisite: at least one other pmC class or workshop. June 7, 9:30 am-4 pm. Tuition is $120, $85 for members. $8 fee payable with tuition; materials fee of approximately $75 payable at class.
Just for the Birds. Create your own unique birdhouse fashioned from wood and tin, learning distressed painting techniques and creating a unique cupola on top that will spin in the wind. June 20 & 21, 10 am-4 pm. Tuition is $198, $178 for members. $30 fee payable with tuition.

NMS Summer Jazz Program. Register now for five days of playing, learning, and making music with some of Connecticut’s best jazz educators. Guest artist is saxophonist Hamiett Bluett. Students are placed in the Neighborhood Music School Big Band and/or an ensemble appropriate to their level. Ensemble genres include traditional, fusion, bebop, Latin, and jazz/rock. Appropriate for ages 13 and older. Ability to read music required. Discounted registration through Friday, June 26. Program takes place August 3-7, 9:30 am-5:30 pm with a master class and concert on August 4.
