Exact Change is Back

For the fourth consecutive year, the Arts Council of Greater New Haven is pleased to partner with CT Transit in presenting Exact Change, a series of live performances on five bus routes in New Haven. Performances take place on Saturday, May 7, and are free with CT Transit’s regular $1.25 fare.

Participating artists include: Elaine Peters with her traditional dance troupe CoCo-Carribe; the Hillhouse Opera Company; mime artist Sharece Sellem of Artistic Xpressions and members of her company; spoken word artist Tirishi Shuler with his poetry collective; and Noteworthy, a barbershop quartet from the all-female chorus Silk n’ Sounds dedicated to sharing the timeless melodies and harmonies of the genre.

Takenobu's original songs and folk renditions travel through a layered soundscape of percussive pizzicato and legato bowed lines to a distinctively contemporary sound. A Benefit Concert for Baba Coleman

Beloved drummer, teacher, drum maker (and member of The Afro-Semitic Experience) Baba David Coleman is suffering severe health challenges and will no longer be able to earn his living as a hand drummer.

A Benefit for Baba Concert is being held at Neighborhood Music School on Sunday, May 1 at 6PM featuring 3 great bands with which Baba has performed over the years; The Afro-Semitic Experience, Mikata and Osere Irunmole Atilu Atorin, a percussion troupe from New York City performing Yoruban ritual music.

Shakespeare Slam & Elizabethan Bash

ARTFARM announces its third annual Shakespeare Slam and Elizabethan Bash! on Tuesday, May 3 at 7 pm at the Wadsworth Mansion, 421 Wadsworth Street, Middletown.

Winter’s Desire, acrylic on canvas by Richard Malinsky, has been selected as the Preview Table for The Art Guide’s “Dining Art Program”. See it and enjoy its serenity while dining at Pazzo Ristorante, 730 Boston Post Road, Westbrook, CT.

Many high-end restaurants from Stonington to Branford, CT will be featuring dining tables with artists’ paintings printed on canvas laminated to tabletops. Each image will have a small plaque including the artist’s name, title, and website. In addition, at the corner of each tabletop is a “QR Code” that can be scanned with a smart phone and linked immediately to each artist’s website. A brochure will be available for patrons to take home including artists’ thumbnails, mini bios, and contact information.
