The Yale Center for British Art celebrates the launch of its online catalogue with Connections, a companion exhibition that will replicate the experience of searching across the collections. With more than two hundred paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, rare books, and manuscripts from the early seventeenth to the early twentieth century, Connections will present familiar works as well as some special surprises.

Rosemary's work is divided into three areas of study; assemblages of idiomatic forms of New England architecture in abstracted groupings; candid glimpses of people in every day settings which suggest stories that the observer can identify with and emotionally charged landscapes of saturated colors.

Sean Cronan has been the head cheese at the Zoo York factory as their staff photographer for the last four years. He has been skating for about the last 24 years and shooting photos for 15 of them, so he has quite the portfolio. His first published photo of Jim Greco was a centerfold in Thrasher. Since then he has traveled all over the world capturing endless photos, some of which you have probably seen in magazines and not even known.

British Pop Band Stornoway Comes to the Peabody

Stornoway, the British indie pop quartet whose music Venus calls “effortlessly captivating,” returns to the Peabody from an international tour for the opening of Invasion of the Bloodsuckers: Bedbugs and Beyond. They will debut an acoustic pop tune about those dreaded little creatures as well as play songs from their hit album Beachcombers Windowsill.
Opening day for the exhibit is Saturday, May 28, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Stornoway and the exhibition are free with Yale I.D., museum membership, or admission of $5-$9. Children under 3 are also free. www.peabody.yale.edu

Call for Milford Student Artists

The Walnut Beach Arts Festival announces the 2011 “Wall of Art” Student Arts Contest sponsored by the Milford Pediatrics Group.

All Milford students are eligible to enter. Students can submit up to two pieces of two dimensional art that is matted and prepared for hanging in any medium. Cash prizes will be awarded in all categories, K-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th and High School. Best in show will win $200 and will paint a mural for the “Wall of Art” to be displayed at the Walnut Beach Arts Festival on Sunday, August 7, 2011.

Artwork should be dropped off at Sobobo Art Gallery, 42 Naugatuck Avenue, Milford, CT between 12-2pm on Saturday June 11.

New Sound Journal Call for Work

The New Sound: A Journal of Interdisciplinary Art & Literature publishes short fiction, poetry, essays, drama, art and book reviews.

Writers at all stages of their careers are invited to submit. Undergraduate students are especially encouraged to submit, as each issue will feature undergraduate writing and art.
