The Shoreline ArtsTrail celebrates its 10th Anniversary with the annual Open Studios Weekend, November 19 and 20, 2011. In total, 43 artists from Branford, Guilford, and Madison are participating in this two-day event, presenting an array of mediums. CAW Annual Bowl-A-Thon
The Studio Potters at Creative Arts Workshop (CAW) are donating their time and energy to help fight hunger this holiday season by sponsoring the 15th Annual Bowl-A-Thon. The event benefits the Community Soup Kitchen and is held on the Sunday, November 20, from 1:30pm to 5:00pm at the CAW Pottery Studio (80 Audubon Street, New Haven). The public is invited to attend.

The Bowl-A-Thon is a sale of hand-made pottery bowls and mugs made specially for the event by Creative Arts Workshop studio potters, faculty, students and friends. Bowls and mugs come full of hearty seasonal soup with bread on the side, all donated by local merchants. On Friday, November 18th, Firehouse 12 is pleased to present saxophonist Jeff Lederer’s Sunwatcher in celebration of their new album Sunwatcher (JazzHeads). In addition to Lederer, Sunwatcher features pianist Jamie Saft, legendary bassist Avery Sharpe, and drummer Matt Wilson.

The 2011/2012 Jazz Series at Milford Center for the Arts will continue on Friday, November 18 at 8PM with a very special performance by Ali Ryerson, flute, and Joe Carter, guitar. Ali Ryerson has emerged as one of the most exciting and versatile flutists on the scene today. Joe Carter started guitar studies at an early age.

Chamber Music Concert

Cellist Joshua Roman
Wesleyan University’s Center for the Arts presents cellist Joshua Roman as part of the Performing Arts Series on Friday, November 18, 2011 at 8pm in Crowell Concert Hall at 50 Wyllys Avenue on the Wesleyan campus in Middletown.

Joshua Roman was the principal cellist for the Seattle Symphony and is also known for his collaboration with DJ Spooky (on iPad) to cover Radiohead’s “Everything in Its Right Place” for The Voice Project. http://www.joshuaroman.com/

There will be a pre-concert talk at 7:15pm by Wesleyan Private Lessons Teacher Julie Ribchinsky. Positive Catastrophe is co-led by cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum and percussionist Abraham Gomez-Delgado and features Kamala Sankaram (voice, accordion); Mark Taylor (french horn); Reut Regev (trombone); Matt Bauder (tenor saxophone); Michael Attias (baritone saxophone); Pete Fitzpatrick (electric guitar); Alvaro Benavides (electric bass); and Tomas Fujiwara (drums).

Bebe Miller Company: History

Wesleyan University’s Center for the Arts presents Bebe Miller Company: History as part of the Performing Arts Series on Friday, November 18 at 8pm, and Saturday, November 19 at 2pm and 8pm, in the Patricelli ’92 Theater, 213 High Street on the Wesleyan campus in Middletown.

Director Bebe Miller has experimented with new ways of revealing her choreographic process since forming her company in 1985. History is a collaborative project with playwriter/director Talvin Wilks, video artist Lily Skove, and company dancers Angie Hauser and Darrell Jones, coupled with multimedia projections and an installation by Maya Ciarrocchi.

Tickets for these performances are $23 for the general public; $19 for senior citizens, Wesleyan faculty/staff, and non-Wesleyan students; and $6 for Wesleyan students. Lyric Hall Silent Movie Series
The Lyric Hall Theater Orchestra presents the 1927 silent film classic, “it,” starring Clara Bow. The film will be accompanied by live music. Performances are Saturday November 19 at 7:00pm and 9:00pm, and Sunday November 20 at 2:00pm at Lyric Hall, 827 Whalley Avenue in New Haven.
