Sharon Butler & Geoffrey Detrani at Gallery 195
Sharon Butler
Sharon Butler
The Arts Council of Greater New Haven presents an exhibition of works by Connecticut artists Sharon Butler and Geoffrey Detrani at Gallery 195 at First Niagara Bank, 195 Church St., 4th floor, New Haven. The exhibition will be on display during bank hours from September 14 through December 9, 2011. An artists’ reception is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13, from 5 to 7pm. The public is invited to attend.

The exhibit will feature work by Sharon Butler and Geoffrey Detrani. Butler uses a juxtaposition of brilliant color against stark backgrounds to evoke the linear state of natural life; many of her pieces are first inspired by the shape of everyday objects. Detrani depicts images of the natural world in explosive colors and “in a state of flux”, in an effort to capture the beauty of the world, but also its fleeting and entropic nature.

For more information about this exhibition and Gallery 195 at First Niagara Bank, call the Arts Council at (203) 772-2788.

The Arts Council Presents A Talk with Jane Pollak
The Arts Council of Greater New Haven presents “A Talk with Jane Pollak,” a small discussion led by Jane Pollak, author of the book Soul Proprietor: 101 Lessons from a Lifestyle Entrepreneur, on Tuesday, September 13th, at 5pm, at The Arts Council of Greater New Haven offices, 70 Audubon St., 2nd Floor, New Haven.

Jane Pollak is a savvy writer with true entrepreneurial spirit; her life and career is a model example of uniting passion with one’s business in order to thrive and succeed. In her well-received book Soul Proprietor, Jane relates her experiences as a woman in business and provides ‘101 Lessons’ for a successful and meaningful career. A small group presentation, the talk with Jane Pollak is a personal and reflective discussion of how to improve one’s relationship to one’s career.

Jane Pollak is a businesswoman and entrepreneur from southern Connecticut. After receiving her Master’s Degree from Columbia University Teachers College, Jane began teaching high school classes. However, wanting more creativity out of her career, she took up an artistic hobby, pysanky – the Ukrainian art of decorative eggs, which led to her launching her own business. Jane’s experiences as a small business owner with a passion for her craft provided the foundation for her book Soul Proprietor, as well as her cross-country workshops where Jane coaches others to unite their passions with their careers.

The presentation will be held at The Arts Council of Greater New Haven’s offices located at 70 Audubon St., on the 2nd Floor, in New Haven.

This talk has a $25 nonmember/$20 member fee; it is open to the public, but requires registration and payment. The payment fee not only pays for registration, but a copy of Jane Pollak’s book Soul Proprietor. A maximum attendance of only twenty persons will be allowed; register as soon as possible. For more information or to register, visit www.newhavenarts.org or call (203) 772-2788.

Grabowski, a New Britain native, earned his BFA and MFA degrees from Central Connecticut State University in 1966 and 1968. For the past 36 years he has devoted himself exclusively to his art. Known for his paintings of expansive abstract canvases filled with bold color and motion, he also paints landscapes inspired by his love of abstract design.
