Exact Change gets CT Transit bus riders live performances
For the second consecutive year, the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, in partnership with CT Transit, presents Exact Change, a series of live performances on five bus routes in New Haven. Performances, which include improv-comedy, music and dance, poetry, and theater, take place on Saturday, July 11, between 11am and 3pm, and are free with CT Transit’s regular $1.25 fare. All bus routes terminate at the New Haven Green.

Participating artists include Deborah Elmore, Lansana Touré and Mabinty Keira, New Haven Theater Company, The Viola Question, and Urban Concept.

About the performers:

Poet Deborah Elmore is a cofounder of the New Haven-based women’s support group Sisters With A New Attitude.

Djembe master Lansana Touré and dancer Mabinty Keira are members of Les Merveilles D’Afrique, a percussion and dance group from the Republic of Guinea, the West African country from which Touré and Keira hail (both are New Haven residents).

New Haven Theater Company was resurrected in the summer of 2005 with the mission of creating unique and innovative theatrical projects for new audiences. For this year’s Exact Change program, company members use life-size, bunraku-influenced puppets to tell stories of journeys and travel.

The Viola Question is an improv-comedy troupe founded in 1987 and based at Yale University. The group performs scenes and games based on audience suggestions in a wide range of improv-comedy styles.

Urban Concept is an offshoot of the New Haven-based jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and soul group Urban Love. Its members include M.C./spoken-word artist The Concept, guitarist G.Bliz, and saxophonist Stephen King.
