CURRENT EXHIBITION
Through March 13, 2009
The Arts Council of Greater New Haven
presents Who I Am on the Inside at the Sumner McKnight
Crosby Jr. Gallery (formerly Small Space Gallery) at 70 Audubon
Street, second floor. The exhibit takes place from January
20 to March 13 at the Arts Council's offices, with a reception
on Thursday, January 22, 5 to 7pm. The snow date
for the reception is Friday, January 23. The public is invited
to attend. Regular gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 9am
to 5pm.
Who I Am on the Inside is an exhibition of works
by young people in the state's juvenile justice system. The
Connecticut Juvenile Justice Alliance organized the exhibit
to highlight the struggles and potential of these young people.
The works are highly personal and often refer to the children's
difficult life histories. Many show precocious talent, especially
considering that most of the young artists are from school
districts that offer little or no studio art. The Alliance
will make the works available permanently through an online
catalogue.
For further information about this exhibition, please call
the Arts Council at 203-772-2788.
