GALLERY 195

Gallery 195, a gallery exhibit in partnership with the Arts Council of Greater New Haven and NewAlliance Bank, is located at 195 Church Street (across from the New Haven Green) on the fourth floor. The exhibit can be viewed during bank hours. Two-person exhibitions are mounted quarterly and are coordinated by the Arts Council.

Smoke & Mirrors at Gallery 195

The Arts Council of Greater New Haven presents Smoke & Mirrors, wall sculpture by Jonathan Waters and Joy Wulke, at Gallery 195 at NewAlliance Bank, 195 Church Street, 4th floor. The exhibit takes place from January 20 to May 1, 2009, with an artists’ reception on Tuesday, April 7, from 5 to 7 pm. The public is invited to attend.

In this exhibit, Jonathan Waters’ geometric wall constructions combine painting and sculpture to explore the transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional art. Joy Wulke’s most recent work is representative of her ongoing transformations of fragmented glass and organic materials into architecture-evoking sculpture.

Jonathan Waters received his BFA from Windham College in 1975, and studied sculpture at Yale University, from which he earned his MFA in 1977. Waters’ work has been exhibited in New York City and throughout the Greater New Haven area.

Having received her BA in architecture from Washington University in 1970, Joy Wulke attended Yale University, where, in 1974, she earned her master of environmental design degree. Wulke is an award-winning and widely commissioned artist whose sculptures have been showcased across the United States. She is the founding and creative director of Projects for a New Millennium.
