GALLERY 195

Gallery 195, a gallery exhibit in partnership with the Arts Council of Greater New Haven and First Niagara, is located at 195 Church Street (across from the New Haven Green) on the fourth floor. The exhibit can be viewed during bank hours. Two-person exhibitions are mounted quarterly and are coordinated by the Arts Council.

CURRENT EXHIBITION
December 13, 2011 to March 9, 2012

The Arts Council of Greater New Haven presents an exhibition of works by Connecticut artists Kerry O’Grady and Rod Cook at First Niagara Bank, 195 Church St., 4th floor, New Haven. The exhibition will be on display during bank hours from December 13, 2011 through March 9, 2012. An artists’ reception is scheduled for Tuesday, December 13, from 5 to 7pm. The public is invited to attend.

The exhibit will feature work by Kerry O’Grady and Rod Cook. Ms. O’Grady draws from the experience of unhinged, indeterminate, and discontinuous moments to create drawings that contemplate the unfixed nature of her own experience; Mr. Cook works in projects which are born from spontaneous experimentation, capturing images that are subject oriented, but not necessarily visually consistent.

Kerry O’Grady was raised in Southeastern Massachusetts where she eventually taught high school art and math. She has studied art throughout the New England region, and has also studied overseas in Tanzania. Her residences have included the Vermont Studio Center and the Burren College of Art. Her work was been on display throughout North America.

Rod Cook is a photographer whose career began in New York. In 1996, he began printing in platinum /palladium under the tutelage of Sal Lopes, an internationally recognized master of the medium. Cook’s subjects have moved from the cypress swamps located near Savannah, GA, to the infinite varieties of mushrooms, and, more recently, unique nudes in invented colors. Cook currently works and resides in Bridgeport, CT.
