GREATER NEW HAVEN ARTS STABILIZATION PROJECT
The Greater New Haven Arts Stabilization Project was lunched in April 2001, beginning a seven-year grant making and technical assistance program to support eight of the region’s most important cultural institutions. The eight organizations participating in the program include Creative Arts Workshop, Guilford Arts Center, the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, Long Wharf Theatre, Neighborhood Music School, New Haven Museum and Historical Society, New Haven Symphony Orchestra and the Shubert/CAPA Theater.
The Greater New Haven Arts Stabilization project provides technical assistance, working capital grants and matching funds to eliminate accumulated deficits for participating organizations. Stabilization strengthens organizations by helping them to develop sound management and financial practices to the ultimate benefit of their creative and artistic project. The Project emphasizes business disciplines in an artistic environment: balance sheet management, strategic planning, full board participation and increased community engagement.
The original technical assistance had been provided by National Arts Strategies organization but since 2004 a dedicated team of consultants from Cool Spring Analytics out of Maryland has handled the project. In addition, a committee of dedicated community leaders who funded the project has worked hard in collaboration with the Arts Council of Greater New Haven to administer the project, providing oversight and becoming engaged in, and award of the needs of a thriving arts community.
