HAMDEN'S 2019-2020 SATURDAY PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES INCLUDE SENSORY-FRIENDLY PERFORMANCES, JAPANESE DRUMS, COMEDIC JUGGLING, AN INDOOR SNOWSTORM AND MORE! HAMDEN, CT - The Hamden Arts Commission will present an all-new cavalcade of talent in its 2019-2020 Saturday Afternoon Family Entertainment Series. The series, which offers an exciting array of programs for adults and children to share, will showcase a variety of homegrown CT and visiting artists including a sensory-friendly and interactive musical performance, a visit by Jack Frost himself, comedic juggling, and more! All shows take place at the handicapped accessible Thornton Wilder Hall in the Miller Cultural Complex, 2901 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, 06518. All shows start at 1 pm except on November 16th, in which there will be two performances: the first at 10am and the second at 11:30am. Tickets are $2 for children, $3 for adults, available at the door only and cash only. Doors open at 12:30pm.
In celebration of Black History Month, on Saturday, February 8th, the Arts Commission is proud to present an interactive African drum and dance workshop by local dance and percussion artist, Hanan Hameen. Ms. Hameen is the founder of the Artsucational™ curriculum - utilizing the arts to improve academics, increasing knowledge of self through history to promote social justice through the arts, and create productive adults in society. Her workshop will feature interactive opportunities to learn basic drumming rhythms and dance moves.
