On Friday, many active and pending grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) were abruptly terminated. This follows the announcements over the last month about DOGE terminating grants and state agency funding from the National Endowment for Humanities (NEH) and the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
We know these federal funding cuts are having immediate and devastating impacts on artists and arts organizations across our region. Additionally, we are experiencing what many of you face in terms of the "trickle down" impact--donors are changing giving patterns, funders are shifting their priorities, and numerous grant programs across the nation are at risk of closing.
In order to advocate for each other, we need to understand the direct impact all these changes are having.
📣 TELL YOUR STORY 📣
In addition to gathering resources for you about how to navigate these changes, we need to be able to share your story.
Today, the Arts Council of Greater New Haven is launching a public dashboard designed to reflect, in real-time, the impacts of funding changes across our 16-town region. The data for this dashboard will come from you, the artists and cultural institutions who take our brief 5-minute survey to quickly capture the financial changes you're facing.
This survey, and dashboard, will reflect the changes happening across our community due to federal funding cuts, philanthropic shifts, and corporate investments in the arts + culture sector.
The time is now. We need your stories to advocate with our legislators, raise awareness with institutional funders, and identify next steps for us to fill this funding gap together.
