On this episode of "Arts Respond" on WNHH Community Radio, we talk to Bridgeport-based producer and curator Chasity Aniece Kennedy about her upcoming event HAIRSTORY, an interactive fashion production that celebrates the journey of loving Black and Brown hair through art, storytelling, and high fashion.
Kennedy, who in 2019 founded CA Productions, speaks about her own journey to natural hair, including the high school fashion show that changed how she understood body image.
In a tribute to those creative roots, Sunday's event will feature brands such as Vibrant Souls Only, Five Fifteen Clothing, Marcella Jay, AVADO, The Amari Lavonne, FUTURTOPIA, MTS Fashion Corner, Tashii Couture, Musiq Élevé, and Brooklyn Isla Jewels. In addition, there will also be performances from ia Joi, Alivia Summerfield, Pax the Collector, and Alicia C. Cobb.
"Arts Respond" is a collaboration between WNHH, its sister publication the New Haven Independent, and the Arts Council of Greater New Haven. Catch more episodes on YouTube, Soundcloud, or Facebook.
