The following citizen contribution was submitted by Daniel Hunt, community liaison at the Connecticut Community Outreach Revitalization Program (ConnCORP).
Kids giggled and played inside a bright bouncy house as tables and chairs transformed into a barbershop and salon. Families milled about, checking out backpacks and school supplies. And one of ConnCORP's own received some of her flowers after decades of dedicated work in the community.
That scene came to Newhall and Morse Streets on a recent Sunday, as the Connecticut Community Outreach Revitalization Program (ConnCORP) held its now-annual backpack giveaway in the building's gym-turned-theater. Among entertainment, kids activities, board games and food, the Hamden-based organization gave away 405 backpacks to over 100 attendees.
The day also included a special ceremony and citation honoring Elaine Roper, vice president of culture and community relations at ConnCORP. All photos are by Gio Roper.
